Finally Fall

We've had a lot to be thankful for over the past two months!

Progress has taken place at the house ~
Brian completed Part V of our Front Porch Makeover.
We got a major bargain on this $4 glass table top.
We repainted the antique piece in the Dining Room see the finished product here.
Fall Decorating is taking place along with a DIY Project.

We also celebrated a couple birthdays here at The Smith Nest including our pup's very own Doggie Birthday Bash.

Pat has been in town a couple times and has helped with some house projects. Garry and Jane came down and helped Brian make major progress on the front porch and yard ~ more on that later.

We were honored this week to receive so many unexpected compliments! We're counting our blessings and hope all are having a very festive fall!

A Thoughtful Place

This week keeps getting better! A huge thank you goes out to Courtney ~ blogger and stay at home mom to two beautiful children! She was so kind to feature our Expedit Shelves on her blog seen here.

Please check out the rest of her blog, A Thoughtful Place,

DIY Burlap Runner

{No Sew Burlap Runner}
I love the look of burlap, especially in the fall! I currently don't own a sewing machine {this would explain why all my curtains still haven't been hemmed}, but after seeing a burlap runner at Pottery Barn with frayed edges, I figured we'd give this DIY a go. I picked up several yards from JoAnn's, cut to length and width, then removed about 5-7 strands from all 4 sides {photo top right}. I made two ~ one for our coffee table and one for our outdoor patio. This project took all of 20 minutes to make both!

Puppy Party

{Rawley Turns One}
That's Seven in Dog Years and to celebrate we had a
Puppy Pizza Party!

Red tissue paper {left over from last Christmas} was used for the hanging pom poms. For an easy how-to tutorial check out this link. Rawley's Silhouette was a simple DIY made from black tissue paper. The placemats and doggie favors were from Crate & Barrel.
The menu included pizza for the humans while the pups were treated to their very own Doggie version which doubled as a birthday cake {with a side of Doggie Ice Cream}!
Dog Pizza Recipe
3 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 cup Dry Oats
1 cup Grated Parmesan
2 T. Margarine
1 Egg
3/4 cup Canned Tomato Sauce
1/4 cup Water
Olive Oil
Garlic Powder
Combine all ingredients except for olive oil and garlic powder. Mix well. Chill in fridge for 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 375. Knead dough then roll onto ungreased pizza pan. Prick with fork, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder. Prior to baking use pizza roller to cut slices. Bake 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Enjoy!
Rawley had a blast with his new best friend Landon!
We can't believe our pup is all grown up!

Painted Dresser ~ Part II

Remember this pink disaster? See it here.

We debated about re-priming and painting but in the end figured it was more time efficient to spray paint.

We used Valspar's Churchill Hotel Vanilla. While this may be the safer choice ~ we're thrilled with how it turned out!

{Stone Mountain}
While Garry and Jane were in town we took a day trip to Stone Mountain.
We had a great day hiking and finished with a picnic!
