Front Porch Makeover ~ Part IV

{Front Porch Makeover ~ Part IV: Taking Shape}
We made a lot of progress on Days 4 & 5. We started by staining the porch. We used the same stain as we did on the back deck ~ see that project here.
We also finished sanding and painting the ceiling that we added during Part III of this project.
We then started work on the railing. We primed, then assembled the bottom and top rails.

We were interepted by a massive thunderstorm prior to finisishing both sides. But we're pleased with how far we got during this part of the project!

  1. That stained porch looks brilliant — the darker finish suits the house so well. We re-did our own porch boards a couple of summers ago and it made the whole entrance feel tidier. While everything was up, we also took the chance to fit a sturdier deadbolt and reinforce the strike plate on the front door. A smart-looking porch with solid hardware behind it really does give extra peace of mind.
