I love this idea!! Clever!
ReplyDeleteI love this space!! What a clever idea! Xo, Katie
ReplyDeleteLOVE. I am a huge Expedit fan, and how genius to do a chalkboard on one side. Excited to browse around your blog.
ReplyDeleteI found you through Courtney's blog. Such a clever idea - must pin this!
ReplyDeleteThis is genius! Found you via a Thoughtful Place.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Love it!
ReplyDeleteFound this through a pin (maybe Rene's original pin?) It's been re-pinned a number of times.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great use of space! I love how you did this. Very creative.
I was wondering if you could please tell me the demensions now that you turned the end unit? I would love to do this in my kitchen!
ReplyDeleteHi, Nicole! Our entire unit measures:
ReplyDeleteWidth: 50"
Depth: 17 1/4"
Height: 72 3/4"
According to Ikea the individual units measured:
Width: 17 3/8"
Depth: 15 3/8'
Height: 72 7/8"
Ours varied slightly from Ikea's measurements.
We would LOVE to see pictures of your final project! To do so please email us at thesmithnest@gmail.com. Good Luck!
if the width and the depth are different, there must be a gap? How did you manage that?
DeleteI was wondering the same thing. Please, I'd appreciate an explanation!
DeleteI just found your blog (God bless Pinterest!) and I've been looking for a cool project like this for my kitchen! I want a non-pantry pantry, and I think this fits the bill! Consider me a follower! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for following Kristin ~ have fun creating your non-pantry pantry!
ReplyDeleteLove this organizer! New Follow from Tip Junkie! Cant wait to check out your posts!

Thanks so much for following Jen!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you applied chalkboard paint directly to the Expedit without using a primer first. Is that right? Looking to do something similar on an Ikea table top.
ReplyDeleteThat's correct ~ no primer! Just a couple solid coats of the chalkboard spray paint. We've had this a little over a year and all is still good ~ although a primer wouldn't be a bad idea. Thanks for reading Sukel!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! LOVE it! Smiles, Jill
ReplyDeleteI really love this! It would do so nicely in my granddaughter's bedroom. She has a whole library and toy store in there, and this could really fix the storage dilemma.
ReplyDeleteLove it - so clever. Did you affix the units to the wall and also to each other?
ReplyDeleteWe have not affixed the units to the wall or each other ~ that being said we would HIGHLY recommend doing so! Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteI love this, too! And I was wondering if you used a stencil for the chalkboard when you painted it or used painters tape?
ReplyDeleteI love this setup and am trying to replicate it, the style at least, in our "landing strip" area where everyone drops stuff on the way in the house. Can you (or anyone else who's done this) tell me how you attached the units to each other and how you accomodated the fact that they're 17 3/8 wide but only 15 3/8 deep when they're turned? Trying to figure this out! Thank you so much!

Hi, Sorry for our very delayed response! We did not use a stencil, but painters tape. An old cd was taped down to the corners to give the rounded edges.
ReplyDeleteCara ~ so glad you like this idea! You are correct about the dimensions and we strongly advise attaching the units to each other + the wall ~ that being said we still have not done that!! We have the two left units pulled out further from the wall so they line up with the chalkboard unit. I hope that makes sense, if not, let us know + I'll have Brian whip up a better diagram.
Cheri ~ Thanks for the feature!
I love this wall unit you created!! Your wall color is beautiful! What is the name and brand of the paint? It's a really nice neutral color :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy!! We used Benjamin Moore's Hush
ReplyDeleteAwesome solution for storage! Love it! Can you add the above pic to Pinterest please?
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you did with these shelves! It looks amazing. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've decided you can never have too many chalkboards and I think I need to do this... :)
ReplyDeleteLove love this!! So awesome
ReplyDeleteLove your shelves! I am currently trying to do something similiar but was challenged with the quarter round on the baseboard keeping the expedit from being flush with the wall. How did you wall mount yours? I noticed from the picture you have quarter round as well. :) Would appreciate any help you can give as I am not very handy.
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea, it is just what we need in the kitchen area - I am going to do it. Where do you buy the Chalkboard Spray from?
ReplyDeleteHi, I am interested in the office containers that hold magazines, etc. They are the gray or blue-gray ones with the holes in them for easier pulling off the shelf??? Hope this makes sense.
ReplyDeleteBTW, this is awesome!!
